Optokobler

Optocouplers are intended as an extra security, between e.g. a computer and other electronic equipment controlled by it.

Should the connected equipment emit an overvoltage back to the computer, the optocoupler inserted in the connection, will receive the overvoltage as a kind of fuse, which means that the computer is not exposed to the voltage and thereby be damaged.
